Kempton enter record 17 junior cricket teams

The first junior matches of the season were played at the weekend

KEMPTON Park Junior Cricket Club played their opening round matches of the 2016/17 season over the past weekend.

The club has reached an all time record, in entering 17 junior teams to participate in the Eastern Junior Cricket Club Association’s league this summer. Results were as follows:

U/8A beat Kwa Thema by 54 runs. Kempton made 144/2. Jack Cannon and Ethan James each made14*. Kwa Thema scored 90/7 with Guillaume Botha taking 2/9 and Zain Mahri 1/3. Man of the match was Dino Binks.

U/8 B1 beat Champions. Kempton batted first, scoring 87. Kempton restricted Champions to 85 runs, with Ruanco Ueckermann taking 3/ 6 and the man of the match award.

U/10 Super League 1 beat Geluksdal. Christiaan Kloppers took 5/0 and and Joshua Shanker 3/0.

U/10 Super League 2 beat Duduza by 28 runs. Batting first, Kempton put on 134/3 and restricted Duduza to 106/9. Top bowlers were Sihaan Singh (3/16), Daniel Spies (2/12) and Morné Pretorius (2/19). Leading batsman were Luke Cannon (22) and Uveshan Moodley (43*), who was also man of the match.

U/10 A2 beat Kwa Thema, setting a target of 177 before restricting the visitors to 54 runs.

Christopher Bennet top scored with 25; Seth Nel took 2/2 and man of the match award was Tiaan Neuman, for his all-round 14 runs, two catches and a wicket.

U/10 B2 lost by seven wickets against Benoni. Man of the match Lereko Tshosane’s bowling figures were 2/2. Gomolemo Makou scored 18 and Michael Hubbard 15.

U/12 Super League beat Kwa Thema by 128 runs. Batting first, Kempton scored 224/2 with James Mendoza on 58*, Unathi Felani 48 and Reinhard Schaffner 36*. Nicholas van der Walt, Dian Smit, Darien Claassen and Reinhard Schaffner took two wickets each, to bowl Kwa Thema out for 96.

U/12 A1, batting first, made 128/5 vs Springs Old Boys. Man of the match Reece Winter top scored with 29 runs; Janco du Preez made 20 and Ian Jonker 18. SOB replied with 102/9: Matthew Keating took 3/9, Caleb James 3/14 and Reece Winter 2/1.

U/12 A2 beat Tsakane by 32 runs. Top batsmen were Naythan Gouws (32), Aiden Gouws (27) and Kyle Stevens (21). Matthew Henning took 2/15. Man of the Match was Shirav Sewsunker with 29* and 2/12.

U/12 B1 lost to Benoni by 9 wickets. Man of the match was Jared Jardim who top scored with 18.
