Mr Mayor, first please the residents

Prove yourself by cleaning up this city and have a service delivery that actually functions

In response to the article about Mzwandile Masina (“Less talk, more action”).

I am very pleased to hear his positive report regarding the building of a power station, establishing a commissioner to fight fraud and corruption, 24-hour turn-around time to service delivery interruptions. I certainly support and applaud him for his forward thinking.

Then, he undoes all the good by mentioning special attention would be given to renaming streets and roads. Surely, the new mayor has more important and pressing issues to address than wasting money on this costly exercise that will only cause confusion, and quite frankly, would anyone from the liberation struggle want to be remembered by having a road named after them in this filthy city?

I suggest, Mr Mayor, that you first prove yourself by cleaning up this city and have a service delivery that actually functions, in an effort to please all the ratepayers of Ekurhuleni, before you attempt to please the few families of the liberation heroes.
