Grade R Children’s Day celebrations at Mooifontein
In line with the theme which was 'Jobs People Do', the learners came dressed up as pilots and air hostesses
VARIOUS schools gathered at Mooifontein Primary School for the Ekurhuleni North District 2016 Grade R and 3 annual Children’s Day celebrations.
In line with the theme for the day, which was “Jobs People Do”, learners from the various schools came dressed up as pilots and air hostesses, firemen, construction engineers and teachers.
“The Gauteng Premier requested that the Department of Education’s activities should strengthen and raise awareness in the community about Ekurhuleni’s economic corridors by promoting the metro’s economic strengths and priorities,” Tshedi Diale and Prudence Pienaar, senior education specialists and Ekurhuleni North District ECD (Early Childhood Development) facilitators, explained.
“As a result, Grade R presentations for this year will focus on a careers theme, with emphasis on the hospitality and airport related industries.”
DCES (deputy chief education specialist) and early childhood development co-ordinator, Ann-Marie Rebaney, gave a keynote address titled “Shaping the Future Today”.
Rebaney said from birth, children have naturally inquisitive minds. From the time they start walking, they are already curious about their surroundings, wanting to play and experiment with everything. And this, Rebaney explains, is how they learn.
“The questions children ask lead to them learning; therefore teachers should evoke this curiosity in learners within the classroom. Teachers should allow kids to ask questions and experiment,” Rebaney said.
