Youngster to represent his country

'It was an ambition to represent my country and I am so privileged to have been chosen'

Modderfontein Squash Club’s (MSC) Sipho Ncube (18) has been selected to represent South Africa in the World Junior Squash Championships, in Poland, from August 7-16.

Sipho, a learner at Parktown Boys High School, is one of several youngsters adopted by the MSC as part of its youth development programme.

He qualified for a scholarship to learn squash in 2012, played in a development programme in Braamfontein before moving to Egoli Squash Development at the University of Johannesburg and then to Modderfontein.

“This is a dream come true,” says Sipho. “It was an ambition to represent my country and I am so privileged to have been chosen.”

MSC chairman Piet van Dongen believes the club’s development programme is the most exciting achievement in its four-year history.

In addition to Sipho, two other young talents, Sylvester Mabote and David Sibanda, are featuring high up in the programme.

“All three show great potential and have been coached by the club’s manager/coach, Dikana Mthombeni,” says Van Dongen.

“These three youngsters are on the brink of taking our first team, currently lying third, to the highest league in Gauteng.

“We are extremely proud of Sipho’s achievement and will give him our full support in getting him prepared for the world champs.”

Backing up the MSC’s development programme is Moneyline Financial Services, a member of the Net 1 Group. The company’s spokesperson, Janie Marx, is excited about the progress of the youngsters and feels the sponsorship is justified.
