Ekurhuleni Emergency services on high alert with continuous rain

Ekurhuleni Disaster and Emergency Management Services (DEMS) is on high alert following the heavy rains that are pouring across the city.

Emergency Services and Disaster management teams have put together response plans, including placing swift water rescue crew on standby for the duration of this period of rain. Since the past week, parts of the City has experienced continuous rainfall which lead to water saturation which could lead to flash floods in different areas.

William Ntladi, spokesman for DEMS, said officials were continuously monitoring and assessing areas prone to flooding on an hourly basis. In addition to this, the metro is involved with the provision of emergency shelters and relief aids to communities affected by flooding.

Residents within the City are also advised to be on high alert, more over those in low lying areas. Should there be any life threatening emergencies, they are advised to call the call centre on (011) 458 0911 or the national emergency number, 10177 or 107, in the event of flash floods
