Man dies horrific death in Pomona gas explosion (graphic content)

It is believed the sparks from the grinding machine ignited with the gas and caused the explosion

A man was blown to pieces on Sunday afternoon after a gas explosion in Pomona.

The man was working with a grinding machine at a truck repairs business on Maple Street when the explosion happened at about 1pm.

Emer-G-Med paramedics were on the scene.

“A truck carrying LP Gas was parked in the yard of the business. It is believed the sparks from the machine ignited the gas from the truck and caused an explosion,” a paramedic said.

Apparently one of the employees said something needed to be fixed on the truck’s trailer and they did not know there was still gas inside the truck.

According to the paramedics, police and forensics were on the scene on Monday again as more body parts were found.

Another worker, who suffered moderate head injuries when he was hit by a piece of metal during the explosion, was taken to Tembisa Hospital by provincial emergency services.

Capt Jethro Mtshali of the Kempton Park SAPS confirmed an inquest was opened.

“Our experts will investigate the matter to find out the exact cause of the explosion.”
