Glen Marais father murdered in front of his family in botched hijacking

The man tried to fight off one of the intruders when one of them fired the fatal shot

ONE shot was all it took to end his life.

A husband and father was killed on Monday in an attempted hijacking on Apiesdoring Street in Glen Marais.

According to Capt Jethro Mtshali, Kempton Park SAPS spokesman, the incident happened at about 5pm.

“The man, his wife and children had just arrived at their home. The husband had already gone inside the house and the children were still in the car while their mother was closing the gate.

“Three men approached her and she screamed. Her husband came outside and tried to fight off one of the suspects,” Mtshali said.

While the fight continued, one of the other intruders fired a shot that fatally wounded the Glen Marais resident.

The suspects immediately fled on foot. Police were called to the scene and the sector vehicle arrived just moments after the incident.

“The man was taken to Arwyp where he was certified dead at about 6.30pm.”

A case of murder and attempted hijacking was opened.

The police appeal to anyone who might have information on what happened. The public can call 08600 1011 or send an sms to the crime line on 32211.
