Driver escapes serious injury in ‘bizarre accident’ on Atlas Road

THE impact of an accident in Bonaero Park on Sunday afternoon was so severe that it threw a light commercial vehicle on top of another car.

Luckily no-one was seriously injured.

According to John-Luvik Putter, a photographer, he came across the scene which he described as “somewhat bizarre”.

He said a Mr Cornelius, a Bonaero Park resident, explained to him that he was returning home in his Mahindra light commercial vehicle when the driver of a Mercedes flat bed truck, travelling towards Boksburg on Atlas Road, crossed the intersection of Atlas and JBM Hertzog roads against a red light.

“The truck hit the vehicle of Mr Cornelius and the impact was so severe that it overturned the Mahindra and threw it on top of a BMW,” Putter said. Numerous paramedic services were on the scene very quickly and an Ekurhuleni Emergency Services fire truck just a few minutes later.

Fortunately no person was seriously injured, although Mr Cornelius’ daughter, Lise, insisted that her father needed a medical check-up.
