Teen raped by stranger giving her a lift

Kempton SAPS is warning the community to be more vigilant after an 18-year-old girl was raped after asking for a lift from a stranger

KEMPTON Park SAPS is sending out a stern warning to all women in the community to not ask for lifts from strangers.

This comes after an 18-year-old girl was allegedly raped by a man she asked a lift from.

According to Capt Jethro Mtshali, spokesman for Kempton Park SAPS, the teenager asked for a lift from a man unknown to her from Isando to Kempton Park. It turned into a horrific ordeal for her.

“The girl arrived at our offices on August 29 to report that she had been raped. She told police she had asked a strange man for a lift from Isando.

“But when they got to an open veld in Rhodesfield at about 2pm, the man stopped the car, pulled out his gun and threatened to shoot her. The man then raped the young girl,” Mtshali said.

“Rather take taxis or any other form of public transport. You can never know what or who you might come across, not everybody is kind and honest and safe.”

A case of rape was opened and police are investigating.
