EMPD warns of increase in street robberies

Members of the community are advised to walk in groups when commuting to work or school in the morning or evening.

The EMPD and other law enforcement agencies have noticed that street robbers are on the rise, especially in the Thembisa area.

The targeted are the most vulnerable while on their way to work.

According to EMPD spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Kelebogile Thepa, law enforcers have identified hotspots within Thembisa where most of these robberies are reported.

“They are Tlatlama Extension, Maokeng, Leboeng, Teanong and other adjacent sections.

“It is understood that perpetrators pick their targets and quick escape routes, robbing them of items such as smartphones, laptops and cash. Most of these robbers are armed,” said Thepa.

Members of the community are advised to walk in groups when commuting for work or school in the mornings or evenings.

Power outages have also contributed to the increase in robberies.
