Kaalfontein man sentenced to life for wife’s murder

During a protracted altercation at their house one afternoon in July 2021, Dube repeatedly stabbed his wife, Patricia Tshabalala, who was then 47.

The station commander of the Ivory Park SAPS expressed an appreciation for the life sentence issued to a Kaalfontein man for the murder of his wife.

The South Gauteng High Court handed down a life sentence to 44-year-old Michael Vusi Dube earlier this month.

During a protracted altercation at their house one afternoon in July 2021, Dube repeatedly stabbed his wife, Patricia Tshabalala, who was then 47.

“Our communities are replete with gender-based violence, and this life-in-prison sentence will undoubtedly make it abundantly clear to other abusers that using violence in domestic disputes does not work,” said Brigadier David Mbongeni Ngcobo, the station commander of the Ivory Park SAPS.

He reminds the community members since the police cannot be present everywhere that it is their duty to report gender-based violence.

He urged victims of GBV to speak out as soon as signs show up in a relationship.

“We must never make excuses on behalf of the abusers,” says Ngcobo.

The Ivory Park SAPS, like many police stations in the country, has victim-friendly rooms to give victims of gender-based violence the attention and privacy they need.

He requests anyone who witnesses any GBV incident to contact the police on 08600 10111.

Another outlet available to women on the receiving end of domestic violence is the toll-free number of 0800 150 150.
