Suspects face multiple charges after caught by EMPD

The driver of the vehicle ignored the blaring siren and flashing blue lights.

EMPD Thembisa precinct officers arrested two suspects for different charges on August 11 in Thembisa.

EMPD spokesperson Kelebogile Thepa said that while on patrol, officers noticed a white Ford Bantum light delivery vehicle driving inconsiderately.

The driver of the vehicle ignored the blaring siren and flashing blue lights.

Thepa told The Thembisan that the joy ride came to a halt when officers managed to block the motorist off at the intersection of Andrew Mapheto and Brian Mazibuko drives.

She added that the 35-year-old motorist was hostile and was charged with reckless and negligent driving.

He was also found to in possession of a fake driver’s license.

“As officers were reading the man his rights, a ready-to-fight 40-year-old male exited a black VW Amarok LDV and started calling EMPD officers names,” she said.

Thepa said the accomplice claiming to be the man’s friend was also apprehended.

The white Ford Bantum that the 35-year-old suspect was driving.

According to Thepa, the duo were charged with fraud, failing to furnish information, crimen injuria, resisting arrest and intimidation, were marched to the Rabasotho Police Station and they are expected to appear in the Thembisa Magistrate’s Court soon.

“Both vehicles were impounded,” said Thepa.
