CoE constructs a bridge in Pomona

Part of the project also focused on the removal of alien vegetation to improve the water flow.

MMC for Transport Planning, Roads and Stormwater, Andile Mngwevu, officially handed over a new bridge in Pomona on August 3.

The bridge will be used by pedestrians and motorists.

The City of Ekurhuleni rebuilt the bridge and also rehabilitated the stream flowing under it.

This follows complaints of flooding during heavy rains.

“When the community raises issues, we listen. We may not be able to resolve all issues at the same time, but you can be rest assured that when the resources become available, the work shall get done,” said Mngwevu.

The project entailed the construction of the bridge at Glapina Avenue over the stream to connect residents.

“The work also included the installation of gabions to stabilise the stream’s bed and banks, and stop channel erosion.”

Pomona resident Heidi Oosthuizen said she was delighted with the quality of work and the fact that they will no longer experience flooding during rainy seasons.
