The purpose of the event was to engage locals in conversation about challenges affecting young people, particularly mental health.
According to Norkem Park Youth Crime Prevention Desk chairperson Brian Sebone, organisers wanted to draw attention to the problems that young people are dealing with including anxiety and suicide.
“To connect and make a difference in the community, we have partnered with Hluma Medical Center. We are hoping to visit shools as well,” Sebone said.
Lizzy Yawa, a motivational speaker from Norkem Park Youth Crime Prevention Desk, said those in attendance honoured the achievements of the youth of 1976 and motivated today’s youth to follow in their footsteps.

According to You Are Not Alone founder, Jabulile Maseko, the organisation teamed up with Norkem Park SAPS to help the youth.
“Our services are free and be accessible at Norkem Park SAPS,” said Maseko.
Local churches were also asked to share their knowledge and experience with those who attended the event.
Pastor Sebangana from Tembisa For Jesus said that Jesus was the only one who can provide solutions to all the issues that young people face.
“As a nation, we must prioritise making Jesus our guiding light and savior,” said Sebangana.
