Two suspects arrested for multiple charges in Thembisa

“As the officers were re-arresting the suspect, a female bystander assaulted the officers and took videos of them."

The EMPD arrested two suspects on multiple charges on Andrew Mapheto Drive in Thembisa on June 9.

EMPD spokesperson Kelebogile Thepa said officers were patrolling on Andrew Mapheto Drive when they noticed a Ford Ranger bakkie that was travelling at a high speed.

“Officers attempted to stop the motorist, however, the driver continued to accelerate away from the pursuing vehicle,” said Thepa.

She said that the vehicle was cornered on Andrew Mapheto near Thembisa High School where the driver was arrested.

Thepa told The Thembisan that while officers were transporting the suspect’s vehicle to the Thembisa precinct for safekeeping, the suspect attempted to escape arrest. He ran away on foot but was stopped with the help of the security guards.

“As the officers were re-arresting the suspect, a female bystander assaulted the officers and took videos of them,” added Thepa.

She said that the female suspect was also arrested and charged with intimidation, interference, crimen injuria and resisting arrest while the male suspect was charged with reckless and negligent driving, driving without a valid license and other documentation, resisting arrest and contravention of Section 49 (1) of the Immigration Act (Act 13 of 2002).

Thepa said that the suspects were detained at the Rabasotho Police Station and will appear in the Rabasotho Magistrate’s Court soon.
