The campaign was inspired by National Child Protection Week.

According to Mamete founder Linkie Thabyane, they saw an excellent opportunity to engage with young girls.

“I wanted to use my NPO to share my knowledge and experiences with the school so that the lives and mindsets of my fellow girls’ can be changed. I felt they were capable of accomplishing more than I did, and I sometimes wished I had a mentor like myself.

“Motivating young girls is important to me for several reasons. It helps to build their self-esteem and confidence.

When girls feel motivated and believe in themselves, they are more likely to take on new challenges and pursue their goals.

“This can lead to greater success in academics, sports, and other areas of life.

“Talking to the girls can help to break down gender stereotypes and barriers. Historically, women and girls have faced discrimination and limited opportunities in many areas of society.

“By encouraging girls to pursue their interests and goals, we can help to create a more equal and diverse world.”

Thabyane added that motivated and empowered girls were more likely to become leaders and role models in their communities.

They can inspire other girls and women to follow in their footsteps and create positive change in the world.

“Overall, motivating young girls is important for their personal growth and development and for creating a more equitable and just society.”

Additionally, the organisation requests donations of sanitary pads from locals.

“People can support the organisation by donating sanitary pads to the school, helping with our funds to support our daily operations, or helping us build our home in the Kopanong neighbourhood of Thembisa,” said Thabyane.
