Local police use sports as a means to fight crime

"Together, let's help our children understand the difference between good and wrong.”

Thembisa police in partnership with Martha Ndlovu, a member of Tembisa United Football Association, embarked on a sports against crime initiative.

It was hoped the event would address social ills including GBV, school safety and general crimes. The event was held on Freedom Day.

Sergeant Asnath Makgupya took the stage and urged parents to support events like these where their children could show off their abilities.

“Parents, act in a similar manner to foster your children and their aspirations in life when you have to watch the PSL clubs without second-guessing.

“We have a problem with home invasions and hijackings, therefore, I need to educate you about how these crimes are committed and provide safety advice because they also lead to rapes and killings.

“If you want to unwind, avoid sitting in the automobile and instead enter the house. Maintain neighbourhood watch and always lock your doors. Parents, I don’t want to talk about the missing 12-year-olds or older teenagers!

“Together, let’s help our children understand the difference between good and wrong.”

Everyone complimented Ndlovu for taking the children off the streets and providing free after-school activities for them.

The group committed to unite, plan something more substantial, and extend the services to other areas of Thembisa.
