Kempton Park police hold a prayer session

“People always need to be given courage as life is difficult, so for them to receive prayer, encouragement and upliftment it helps them to do their work better."

“The purpose of the event was to gather together with the pastors and members of our station, also with the community members, to experience and remember the suffering of Jesus Christ,” said Colonel Motsatsi Lesomo.

Sergeant Dipuo Ditshego during the prayer day.

Lesomo said that such events contribute to the officers spiritual wellbeing because they always need God in every part of their job.

“We can’t do anything without God, that’s why today we are here together with pastors so that we can be able to strengthen our prayer because we can’t prevent crime without putting God first,’’ she said.

She said that with this event they were hoping to achieve more love for one another and strengthen their faith in God.

The event wasn’t only about praying but it was also about learning more about the Word of God and how God can change lives.

“I have learnt that I should forgive, meaning that all the preparators that did wrong to our victims I’m asking God to forgive them because they don’t know what they were doing,’’ said Cynthia Dinalane, a gender-based violence activist from Kempton Park.

Pastor William Markus said that such events are important as people need to be encouraged to believe in God.

“People always need to be given courage as life is difficult, so for them to receive prayer, encouragement and upliftment it helps them to do their work better,” said Pastor Markus.

He said such events give the police hope and energy to do their work.

“I just want to say that police should always remember that God is real and not only in their personal life but also in their workplace.

“God can enable them to do and understand so much and they should always ask for guidance and strength in God,” he advised police.

According to the sector commander Shadrack Magcuntsu, the Easter Prayer Day helped the police in healing as they come across different cases that are traumatising.

“I have learnt that we as police if we can work together with the community members. We can overcome a lot of things in terms of fighting crime,’’ said Magcuntsu.
