Local dancer set to represent SA at championships held in UK

According to Jennifer-Lee’s mother, Jackie Houseman, her daughter was introduced to dancing by her friend.

Bonaero Park resident, Jennifer-Lee Houseman (11) was selected to represent South Africa at the Freestyle World Championships that will be held in Blackpool UK in June.

Jennifer-Lee who is also a singer started her dancing career in 2019.

That year she entered her first unregistered competition and won.

She began competing as a beginner dancer in January 2021 and she set herself a goal of becoming the best dancer she can be.

Jennifer-Lee trains five to six days a week for one to four hours.

She has attained several titles both locally and internationally.

She also participates in Barnyard Theatre productions.

According to Jennifer-Lee’s mother, Jackie Houseman, her daughter was introduced to dancing by her friend.

“Her friend was dancing and she wanted to check it out and since that first day on the dance floor she wanted more time at it.”

Jackie said that Jennifer-Lee is enrolled at a tutoring centre called Arukah in Bonaero Park.

“The homeschool environment gives her more time to concentrate on her dancing and they provide suitable flexibility when she has to attend competitions out of town,’’ said Jackie.

Jennifer-Lee is not only excelling in dancing but also in her academics as she obtained 79.5 % average pass for Grade Five and is striving to do better in Grade Six.

She has been invited to dance and model on the MSC Cruise ship that will depart from the Durban Harbour on March 21, which her mother believes will open more doors for her and get her to meet new people with different talents around the world.

Her achievements opened more doors for her as she qualified to dance for the South African Freestyle Dance Team at the Freestyle World Championships that will be held in Blackpool in the UK in June.
