Armed robbers arrested by Norkem Park police

The robbers had just robbed a lady of her cellphone when they noticed the police vehicle approaching.

Norkem Park SAPS intercepted two men following a robbery in Birch Acres on February 14.

“Shortly before 15:30 Norkem Park SAPS crime prevention members Constables Moloto, Ntjana and reservist Constable Phiri were on patrol in Birch Acres when they noticed a man pointing a firearm at two women and taking their cellphones,” said Norkem Park SAPS communications officer, Warrant Officer Barbara-Anne Ferreira.

Two firearms with their serial numbers filed off were also found with the two suspects.

When the suspect spotted the officers he got into a green Honda with no registration plates.

“The officers gave chase and managed to stop them.

“The police officers searched the driver and occupant and found two unlicensed firearms in their possession – one 9mm pistol and one 9mm short pistol with both serial numbers filed off.”

“The stolen cellphones were also found in the vehicle,” added Ferreira.

The suspects were arrested and charged with armed robbery and possession of unlicensed firearms.

“The vehicle was impounded,” said Ferreira.
