The CoE said it had noted a trend in the increase in water demand over the past week, thus the call for consumers to conserve water to avoid possible curtailments.

In conserving water, the public is encouraged to:

• Limit the watering of gardens. The watering of gardens must only be done in the early morning or evening;

• Take short showers and avoid filling the bath;

• Use a bucket, not a hose pipe, to wash cars and clean outdoor areas;

• Reuse water as much as possible – water from washing clothes and rinsing food can be reused for other purposes;

• Prioritise fixing water leaks on your property and report burst municipal pipes;

• When washing your hands, do not leave the tap open and only rub your hands for 20 seconds;

• Remember to keep the taps closed;

• Minimise evaporation, including from the swimming pool, by covering it when not in use, and watering the garden in cool weather.

CoE technicians are monitoring the city’s water supply systems to avoid the implementation of stringent measures.
