Fighting crime into the new year

Ekurhuleni's District Commissioner in collaboration with Sebenza Police Station hold Operation Okae Molao in Kempton Park.

Ekurhuleni’s district commissioner, in collaboration with Sebenza Police Station, EMPD, CPF and private security company, Night Guard, held a roadblock on Zuurfontein Road on Thursday.
The operation, Okae Molao, was led by Major General Anna Sithole and joined by the Sebenza SAPS station commander Lieutenant Colonel Cathrine van Wyngald, and CPF Ekurhuleni North chairperson, Andrew Mosese.

Private security company Night Guard assisted the police in the search of illegal firearms during operation Okae Molao.

According to Sithole, the operation aimed to stamp the authority of the state and help the local police station reduce crime.
“As the district of Ekurhuleni, we decided to support the station commander of Sebenza as we know that SAPS has this operation throughout the Gauteng province on a regular basis.
“The reason we decided to come to Sebenza is that the area has a challenge in terms of property crimes, as well as trio crimes, specifically house burglaries,” said Sithole.
During the first phase of the operation, police looked for stolen property, illegal firearms, and drugs.

Sebenza Police officers held a roadblock at Zuurfontein Road on January 5. The operation Okae Molao was led by the Ekurhuelni district commissioner Major General Anna Sithole and Sebenza SAPS station commander Lieutenant Colonel Cathrine van Wyngald.

Using a fingerprint scanner, they checked motorists for pending criminal cases and also scanned them for wanted suspects.
According to Sithole, members of the EMPD issued 45 traffic fines to the value of R21 950.
Sithole added that members arrested 15 illegal immigrants, which the Department of Home Affairs will process.
One motorist was arrested early in the morning for driving under the influence of alcohol.
“We also have one vehicle that was discontinued by the EMPD because it was unroadworthy,” she explained.
The operation started at about 05:00 when teams searched for drug peddlers and checked liquor license compliance in the community.
Sithole also said that two shebeens were closed by the EMPD.
Van Wyngald was happy with the outcome of the operation because it formed part of the festive season’s law enforcement efforts.
