Residents of Thembisa were unable to use the Kopanong sports field for several months as a result.

To evict the illegal land occupants, the city first sought a court order.

Spokesperson Zweli Dlamini stated that the EMPD carried out the eviction.

“This move means the community of Thembisa, which for months has been complaining about lack of access to what was their recreational facility, finally have their sports ground back,” said Dlamini.

MMC for Community Safety, Khathutshelo Rasilingwane, praised the city’s administration and the metro police for a sterling job on the evictions.
