How to manage your laundry during loadshedding

Five tips to prevent you from getting caught in the dark with your dirty clothes.

Laundry on a schedule? Who would have thought? Before loadshedding the only schedule that laundry needed to fit into was your own. Now, it needs to be done on the electricity’s time. We’ve got five tips from Personal Touch to help you manage your laundry schedule:

  1. If you haven’t already, make sure to download an app such as EskomSePush to help you stay on top of loadshedding. Simply select the zone you are in and the app will tell you which stage you’re on and what times you’re out. Always check one stage up, just to be safe.  By knowing the times, you can start planning.
  2. Check the weather forecast to plan your washing on sunny days, so that the summer sun can do the drying, instead of the tumble dryer. This will also reduce your electricity costs.
  3. Not home during the day? Get the washing done at night. Set your washing machine to wash while you sleep and then just hang up the washing first thing in the morning.
  4. Prioritise your washing needs – school and work uniforms, socks and underwear should be at the top of the list. Some items such as denims don’t need to be washed after every use, so this will reduce your laundry load. Pyjamas can also be worn twice before washing.
  5. Plan your outfits for the week, so that you know what you need to clean and what can wait.
