Held on October 29 by Vale Rugby Academy (VRA), the first event of its kind was described as a resounding success as teams from far and wide entered.

It was all out rugby action at the festival.

Organiser Andrew Walker explained the festival had age groups ranging from U7 to seniors playing from 08:00 to 19:00.

“We had hundreds of spectators who enjoyed themselves and lots of lessons were learnt, which will make the next festival bigger and better,” said Walker.

The chairperson of the Junior Panthers said after the youth club was established this year, the club endeavoured to host the festival and invite other clubs and schools to Edenvale.

“Growing up and playing rugby in Edenvale we always attended rugby festivals at other schools and clubs.”

Walker said VRA was established following a demand for private coaching, rugby clinics and a lack of local festivals.

“Several of us put VRA together to deliver these services, to promote rugby and upskilling local rugby players.”
