Charity golf for Thembisa school learners

The Bakgotsi Social Club members invited various players from Ekurhurleni in an effort to raise funds for learners of Tembisa High School.

Thembisa’s elite hosted a charity golf tournament at Kyalami Country Club on August 26.

The Bakgotsi Social Club members invited various players from Ekurhurleni in an effort to raise funds for learners of Tembisa High School.

According to Simon Morule, a member of Bakgotsi Social Club, the tournament usually takes place once every two years. Due to Covid-19, they were unable to host the tournament in recent years.

United Democratic Movement’s Bantu Holomisa and golfers enjoyed their day at the Bakgotsi Charity Golf on August 26.

This year’s tournament saw one of Thembisa’s youngest elite golfers, Tokollo Dhlamini, play among businesspeople, lawyers, educators, doctors, and politicians such as the president of the United Democratic Movement, Bantu Holomisa.

The tournament was last held in 2018.

Morlue said the funds raised from the tournament will help in alleviating the poverty of school children in Thembisa.

“We will be going to the school next year in January, so we can get help in identifying the needy children of the school by means of corresponding with teachers and from there we will evaluate how much we can manage to donate depending on the amount raised from the golf day,” said Morule.

One member, Uriah Moganedi, stated that the club has been donating to several charities in Thembisa including old age homes.

Moganedi said the funds are used to purchase school uniforms school, shoes and anything deemed necessary for the progress of the children’s academics.
