WATCH: CoE Mayor and MEC to visit families of the deceased

According to the media release issued by MEC's spokesperson, Castro Ngobese, Maile's visit to the area was prompted by recent volatile and violent service delivery protest.

The Executive Mayor of CoE, Ald Tania Campbell and Gauteng MEC for Human Settlements, Urban Planning and CoGTA, Lebogang Maile, are expected to visit the families of the deceased who were allegedly killed during the Thembisa protest on Monday, August 1.

According to the media release issued by MEC’s spokesperson, Castro Ngobese, Maile’s visit to the area was prompted by recent volatile and violent service delivery protest.

“Maile will use the visit to solicit the underlying reasons that triggered the protest, undertake site visit to torched public infrastructure and extend condolences to the families who lost their loved ones during the mayhem,” Ngobese said in the statement.

The MEC is also expected to address Thembisa residents today (August 3) meanwhile Campbell is expected to be back in Thembisa on Friday (August 5) to give feedback and respond to the memorandum handed over by residents.
