CoE condemns destruction of infrastructure in Thembisa

Residents are requested not to damage infrastructure as it is intended to provide basic services to them.

The City of Ekurhuleni is concerned about reports of destruction of public infrastructure amid ongoing service delivery protest in Thembisa.

“Since the start of today’s service delivery protest, the Rabasotho Customer Care Center has been set alight and four council owned vehicles were damaged in fires,” said CoE spokesperson Zweli Dlamini.

“The Thafeni Pay point is also on fire, as well as the substation on Andrew Maphetho Drive.”

“The burning of a substation will mean that residents of the area will be without electricity supply for some time due to the infrastructure damage,” said Dlamini.

Residents are requested not to damage infrastructure as it is intended to provide basic services to them.

Law enforcement agencies are on the ground monitoring the situation in Thembisa.
