NGO addresses GBV in Tembisa

The European Union showed interest in women's empowerment, youth development, life skills training and GBV prevention.

Get Informed Youth Development (GIYD) partnered with the Foundation for Human Rights (FHR) on the prevention of the GBV programme that was funded by the European Union.

The event took place on July 19 at the GIYD centre in Phomolong, Thembisa.

“The event was to welcome the president of the European Council, Charles Michel, in Thembisa and take him through the programmes that we as the GIYD offer in partnership with the FHR to assist GBV victims,” said social worker, Mokgadi Malebane.

Malebane said the European Union showed interest in women’s empowerment, youth development, life skills training and GBV prevention.

“We had the GIYD, the FHR, members of the union, Ward 12 Clr Gloria Ndinisa, Rabie Ridge SAPS, metro police, Zoleka Matlakala from Charlotte Maxeke Secondary School and Thandanani Ncuba from Tembisa West Secondary School in attendance.

They were part of the social entrepreneurship project. The learners had a chance to speak about how GBV and its impact on their lives and communities,” added Malebane.
