The semi-finalists who recently hosted a career expo for school children in the Ibaxa section in Thembisa for their youth day campaign also gave motivational talks to residents of the centre.

Among the topics discussed on the day were social ills that affect the youth including drug abuse, GBV and teenage pregnancy.

Miss Thembisa semi-finalists gave back to the community of Vusumuzi (Thembisa) on International Mandela Day.

Reigning queen Mahlako Machaba and second princess Tlou Hlako guided the semi-finalists as they were to have discussions with the children from the centre.

“The toiletry drive was my main project for the year and we asked the semi-finalists to be a part of it.

“We divided the children into groups to discuss the social ills affecting our communities with the 2022 semi-finalists,” said Machaba.

Machaba said Mandela Day reminded her that she does not have to be rich to give back to the community as she has always given back through her acts of service.

“The spirit of giving back instils in me an attitude of helping others without expecting anything in return,” said Machaba.
