WATCH: Thembisa roads blocked due to protest action

Some of the protestors have since made their way to Germiston to deliver a memorandum.

Frustrated residents blocked off roads around Thembisa in retaliation of lack of service delivery and rate increases on Wednesday morning.

The march that was organised by the Tembisa Community Forum (TCF).

According to Lt/Col Kelebogile Thepa, EMPD spokesperson, the protestors burnt tyres and made barricades blocking various roads including Andrew Maphetho, Rev RTJ Namane, Sam Molele and Brian Mazibuko drives.

Although the protestors also gathered in front of Tembisa Police Station (Rabasotho), at around 09:30, they were reported to be on their way to Germiston.

“TCF members and other community members were being transported by bus on their way to the Ekurhuleni Municipality Head Quarters in Germiston to deliver a memorandum of their grievances,” said Thepa.

“The bus was escorted by EMPD vehicles. Some of the metro police officers have remained in Thembisa at the blocked sites to monitor the situation as there were more people who remained behind while others headed to Germiston.
