The local rugby club, also known as ‘The Wolwe’, went head-to-head against their rivals Edenvale Panthers Rugby Club.

According to The Wolwe’s junior chairperson, James Barnardt, the club had to combine hard work, dedication and determination in practice sessions, while juggling cold weather, load shedding and work priorities.

“The second team went into half-time leading 8-0, and managed to fight off a motivated Edenvale team, defending like the champs they are, to close the game-winning 8-0,” said Barnardt.

“Difficult to call out names in such a close game, but up-front newcomer, George Killian, stood his man, and enforced his role as a ‘Wolf’ with courage and helped build a strong foundation for the forward pack.

In the back, fly-half Ruan Botha led the young and feisty backline with confidence, receiving a good ball from the forwards, giving Botha the opportunity to be the playmaker.

Kempton Park ‘The Wolwe’ Rugby Club’s first and second team went head-to-head against their rivals, Edenvale Panthers Rugby Club, over the weekend. The first team’s Jayden Boshoff in action.

“Mr reliable and Captain Stephan Venter’s leadership ensured that every single one of the 23-man ‘Wolf pack’ could be considered man of the match, because they gave it their all for their pack.”

With a very closely contested loss at home against the ‘Panthers’ a few weeks ago, it was a give it your all battle for the Wolwe’s first team.

Second team’s captain Stephan Venter also in action at the match they won 8-0.

“The determination, and hunger to swing the tide, gave Kempton’s Wolwe enough to play for.

“As with the second team, too many names to mention, as everyone did their part, but standout performances from forwards Joshua “Josh” Griffiths and Brendon Fraser have to be mentioned,” expressed Barnardt.

“Being young and passionate has never looked as hard as the spirit these two brought to the game.

With Dipono ‘DJ’ Malatji and Khotso ‘Chuppie’ Mofutsana enforcing their power in the front row, and Captain Fredrik ’Freek’ Willemse leading by example, set the rhythm for a great Wolf pack dominance up front.

“In the back line, superstar Sibakeng ‘Siba’ Ncube, again showed his magic, making big hit after hit, and stepping like a world-class center.

Fly-half Jayden Boshoff, calm and collected as always, kicking a 35m conversion from the side-line, with no ’T’, Bruno Neumann running circles around the opposition.

“Club coaches and management of the Kempton Park Rugby Club are proud and honoured to have the players as part of this incredible Wolf Pack.

Kempton Wolwe managed to hold off a tough, disciplined onslaught from the Panthers, to win the game 24-12.”
