Ivory Park SAPS spokesperson Captain Ben Matimulane said the four were apprehended by Ivory Park SAPS detectives after the victim had been accused of theft of an iPad.

“It is alleged the device belonged to one of the suspect’s children.

“The victim, who is in hospital, was picked up from a car wash in Clayville’s Ext 45 and allegedly taken to Mayibuye, where he was handcuffed and beaten,” said Matimulane.

“During the assault, they continued to demand from the victim to hand over the iPad. The victim continued to deny that he took it.

“The victim was then taken back to Clayville, whereby paraffin was purchased and poured over him. He was set alight,” said the Matimulane.

The station commander of the Ivory Park SAPS, Brigadier David Mbongeni Ngcobo condemned the act.

“This type of behaviour will not be tolerated in Ivory Park.

“The level of cruelty will be dealt with decisively,” said Ngcobo.

Ngcobo thanked witnesses who ensured that, even though the victim could not open a case, statements were taken, thus leading the police to these arrests.

Matimulane said the four suspects were charged with attempted murder.
