Xolani Mnisi, communications officer for the Thembisa Community Forum, said the march was organised and led by the forum in the hope of being heard in regards to their grievances.

The march saw a crowd of Thembisa community members voicing their frustration with the municipality.

They marched from Mehlareng and Makhulong open fields to the Thembisa Customer Care Centre.

“Our grievances are about high rates and taxes, high electricity costs, lack of waste removal, the conditions of our cemetery, bad service delivery and because we feel the municipality doesn’t employ members of the community but rather people from other townships,” said Mnisi.

The march was organised by the Thembisa Community Forum.

He said they handed over the memorandum to Lethoko and requested to have feedback in seven working days.

The Thembisan approached the MMC’s office with a request for comment on the community’s complaints on April 20.

The deadline for comment was the afternoon of April 21.

At the time of going to print, no comment had been received.
