Mayor has clear vision for the City’s turnaround

Ekurhuleni mayor says back to basic approach will improve service delivery.

“If we want to get things done to turn the City of Ekuhuleni (CoE) around and save it from the brink of collapse, we cannot waste time on political theatrics.”

Mayor Tania Campbell did not mince her words during a breakfast meeting hosted by Benoni DA ward councillors on April 1 at the Benoni Lake Club.

The event came after her maiden State of the City Address, which was followed by chaotic scenes in the council chambers during the adoption of the adjusted interim budget on March 30.

Campbell acknowledged that the City is managing an 84% collection rate and has access to 21 days’ worth of cash reserve, which is below the 30-day requirement.

“We have to get back to basics when it comes to service delivery,” she said.

“Our vision and mission are to deliver quality services in an ethical and respectable manner to restore dignity within our communities.”

She said to promote investor and public confidence, corruption needs to be flushed out.

“We are aware of all the challenges facing the administration and have the plans and drive to get it done,” she said.

“Investigations into corruption are ruffling feathers, but we will continue with our mandate.

“We invite businesses and role-players within the private sector to engage with us. Hold us accountable.”
