Held on February 24, the first set of time trials were hosted by Greenstone Hill Running Club.

The championships saw five running clubs from the eastern parts of Johannesburg, namely Greenstone Hill Running Club, Edenvale Rand Road Warriors, Bedfordview Athletics, Jeppe Athletics and Nedbank Running Club, participate in the trials.

Luzzanne Grace of Greenstone Hill Running Club said the trials started in February and will end in June.

The trials, which will run monthly, will be rotated to give each club an opportunity to host the trials.

Grace said the events which start at 16:30 and end at 18:30 are free to all participants and timed by Peak Timing.

She thanked 32Gi, Running High and Beyers for sponsoring the event.

Grace said they want to encourage greater interaction between community running clubs.

“Before the Covid-19 pandemic there was a similar initiative and many runners in the community wanted to see its return.”

“Besides being a social event for runners, it allows clubs to build morale as they compete in a friendly environment.”
