Local model needs your votes

Local model is seeking votes that will help her become a finalist in Miss Teenager South Africa.

A resident from Thembisa’s Lekaneng Section, Itumeleng Phasha (17), is appealing to the community to vote for her to become a Miss Teenager South Africa (MTSA) finalist.

MTSA is a national teen beauty pageant that encourages young women and instils in them the confidence they need to succeed.

The beauty pageant believes a self-assured girl can effect meaningful change, beginning in her own neighbourhood and eventually reaching a worldwide audience. Every girl is encouraged to push beyond her comfort zone, to be herself and to continue to define what it means to be proudly beautiful.

This is why Phasha is seeking votes to become a role model for the youth.

“I am appealing for votes from my community because I know it takes a village to raise a child, and I won’t suffer while I have mothers and fathers who are there and willing to help a young soul like me brighten up,” said Phasha.

“I need the exposure because I want to be an example to younger generations, especially young girls who have been subjected to any kind of abuse, who have struggled with depression and anxiety and who have been told they are not pretty enough.

“I want to help girls who have felt helpless throughout their lives and I want to teach children how to speak up and stand up for themselves.

“My advice to individuals who want to be models is that it’s not simple, but it’s do-able. There will be a lot of negativity and less encouragement along the way simply because others don’t understand or see your point of view.

“This journey requires an open mind, a person who values herself above all else, a person with a strong character who is unaffected by the words of others. Most importantly, you must be eager to learn and appreciate it.”
