Sisters donate in excess of 70 blankets and over 190 bags of pet food to animal shelters

Michela and Isabella said they enjoy doing these collection drives as they can provide the animals with some sort of comfort with food and blankets.

Edenvale resident Michela Scalone has continued her efforts to assist animals in need by collecting donations and fund-raising for the SPCA.

In December the 10-year-old made and sold pancakes to raise funds for charities in need.

Funds raised by Michela were donated to Bedfordview and Germiston SPCA and Stepping Stone Hospice and Care Services in Alberton.

This year Michela resumed her fund-raising and donation collecting efforts with the assistance of her six-year-old sister, Isabella.

In their quest to help animals in need, the sisters appealed to the community to donate food and blankets for the animals.

The sisters also made and sold keyrings to help raise money, which was used to buy pet food and blankets.

The girls thanked the generous and kind customers from Da Graziella Restaurant for supporting them in their charity drive, Fontana Eden Meadows SPAR for donating the pet food, their family and friends.

Through the generosity of the community and the efforts of the sisters, over 70 blankets and over 190 bags of pet food were given to four SPCAs (Sandton SPCA, Boksburg SPCA, Edenvale SPCA, Benoni SPCA) and Midrand-based Kitty and Puppy Haven were assisted.

Following the success of this year’s first fund-raiser and donation drive, the sisters held a second donation drive during the most recent school holidays.

They collected donations of dog food and donated it to Kempton Park SPCA and Edenvale SPCA.

Michela and Isabella said they would like to make a difference in the world.

The sisters want to start by being kind to the animals in shelters, some of which were abandoned.

Michela and Isabella said they enjoy doing these collection drives as they can provide the animals with some sort of comfort.

They hope, one day someone special will give the animals a place to call home.

“I am extremely proud of my two girls, their kind loving hearts and their need to help others and the animals too,” said Manuela, the sisters’ mother.

Manuela said the siblings plan to continue to help where they can.
