Operation O Kae Molao bears fruits

Officers arrested 19 illegal immigrants during the operation.

Fifty-two traffic fines, valued at R18 400, were issued during operation O Kae Molao (where is the law) held in Kempton Park on March 18.

The operation, led by Maj Gen Vincent Leshabane, was a joint operation between police, EMPD, Gauteng Traffic Department, CPF, a security company, the migration unit and other law-enforcement agencies.

Capt Jethro Mtshali, the spokesperson for Kempton Park SAPS, told Express that the operation kicked off at around 5am, focusing on visible policing and second-hand goods and liquor outlet compliance.

“About 586 vehicles were searched at the roadblock held on corner Pretoria Road and Commissioner Street,” said Mtshali. “At the same roadblock, 1 258 people were searched.”
Mtshali said a liquor outlet in Bredell and another in Pomona were fined for not complying with the Liquor Act and large quantities of liquor were seized as a result. “A scrapyard in Pomona was also fined for not complying with the Second-Hand Goods Act,” explained Mtshali.

“Officers also arrested 19 illegal immigrants during the operation. Three suspects were arrested for possession and dealing in drugs. Two minibus taxis were found not to be roadworthy and were therefore impounded.”

Mtshali said the arrested suspects will face various charges when they appear in the Kempton Park Magistrate’s Court while the immigrants will be processed before they are repatriated to their respective countries.
