“The process of contact tracing has revealed that 13 employees have been identified as close contacts. As a result, the Kempton Park Solid Waste Depot will be closed for fumigation and disinfection of work equipment, while the workers go on isolation,” said Mandisa Phosa, divisional head of waste management services.

“The process of disinfecting the facilities and equipment resulted in interruption of rendering of waste management services for today.

This also comes at a time when the depot is also experiencing backlogs due to shortage of vehicles due to mechanical breakdown.”

The affected areas in this regard as per refuse collection schedule are all Tuesday and Wednesday areas and some areas where collection is on Monday. All affected areas will be attended to on Thursday (January 28).
