Deadline for driver’s licence renewal is August this year

According to the City of Ekurhuleni the month of August 2021 is the final deadline for renewal of learner as well as driver licences that expired during lockdown.

The coronavirus pandemic is one of the factors that resulted in an interruption of government services across the country. This interruption of services has led to an extension of the deadline for renewal of learner’s and driver’s licences.

Member of the Mayoral Committee for Community Safety Cllr Frans Mmoko urges members of the community whose licences expired during lockdown between March 26 and December 2020 to renew their licences.

“The August deadline was set to allow as many drivers as possible ample time to renew their licences. This has also allowed us to manage applications as we work with a skeleton staff due to the Covid-19 regulations that require social distancing.

“The Licensing Department is considering various ways to make it convenient for motorists to renew using technology. The coronavirus pandemic is pushing us towards the direction of using technology as the central tool which will conform to the Covid-19 regulations of social distancing, among others.”

To renew your driver’s licence, go to https://online.natis.gov.za to make a booking. Reserve a slot at a testing centre of your choice. You must be at the testing centre at least an hour before the allocated time to confirm the appointment and complete the relevant documentation.

You will need to do an eye test and then make payment. It is always advisable to renew your driver’s licence before its expiry date. This will help drivers avoid incurring expenses relating to issuing of a temporary driver’s licence.
