EMPD arrests 11 for cable theft and drunk driving

Between Thursday and Saturday, two EMPD divisions collectively arrested 11 suspects for cases involving cable theft and driving while intoxicated in Boksburg and Kempton Park areas.

According to EMPD spokesperson Kobeli Mokheseng EMPD OR Tambo International Airport officers arrested eight male and female drivers respectively on C.R. Swart Drive, Old Pretoria and Greyilla roads on September 19 between 4am and 12am.

While on patrol, EMPD Anti-Cable Theft Unit members arrested three male suspects between the ages of 40 and 53 on September 17, around 2.30pm next to Dunswart Railway Station in Main Reef Road in Boksburg.

“The trio were found digging a trench and it is believed they intended to steal and sell 18 meters of copper cables valued at R21 600.

“They were marched to Boksburg North Police Station and charged with the tampering, damaging or destroying of essential infrastructure Act.”

Tools such as three picks, two spades, two hacksaws, one crowbar, four track screws, three pairs of gloves and six empty bags were seized during the arrest.

“The 11 nabbed suspects, facing charges of theft, possession of implements (tools) to commit a crime and driving while under the influence of alcohol, are expected to appear at the Boksburg and Kempton Park magistrate’s courts soon,” Mokheseng concluded.
