CIT officer robbed of firearm and money bag in Van Riebeeck Park

The money bag was found empty in Birch Acres.

A cash-in-transit security officer was robbed of his firearm and a money bag at the Total Garage on Soutpansberg Drive in Van Riebeeck Park around 7am on Monday morning.

According to Sgt Johanna Madiga, Norkem Park SAPS spokesperson, the officer went inside the shop to collect the money while his partner waited in the vehicle.

“As the officer came out of the shop, a man cornered him and robbed him of his company firearm and the moneybag. The suspect fired a shot into the ground and fled in a white double cab bakkie without a register number.”

Three other suspects waited in the getaway car which drove off in the direction of Thembisa.

No money was robbed from the shop.

“The black moneybag was later found empty at the corner of Kwartel Street and Pongola River Drive in Birch Acres.

The security officer sustained an injury to his mouth and head and was taken to Arwyp for treatment.”

The garage remained closed for hours after the robbery.
