Norkem teen (15) needs R31 000 for UK rugby dream tour

A talented Norkem Park rugby player has landed the opportunity of a lifetime.
Lehlohonolo ‘Zeek’ Mokoena (15) was one of 260 players selected by the Grootvlei Sport Academy for a rugby tour to the United Kingdom in September.
However, this gifted wing and aspiring Springbok fears he will not be able to attend the 10-day tour to England and Scotland as his mother, Brighty, cannot afford the R31 895 needed.
“My mom is a single parent. Her income has to cover a lot of expenses,” the mature Birchleigh High School learner told Express.
His proud mother hopes that, through financial assistance, his dream to travel abroad for his beloved sport would become true.
“He is a keen rugby player and this will be a once in a lifetime opportunity for him.”
Rugby first caught Zeek’s eye during a tournament hosted by Spur at Aston Manor Primary School.
“I love rugby because, although it is a very physical sport, it can teach you discipline and how to be a good person.”
To him, this tour will help him to fulfil his dream of someday wearing a green and gold jersey.
“I would learn more about rugby and build my skills to hopefully become a Springbok in the future.”
Zeek believes there is no use in taking on obstacles alone. “Without my team, this opportunity wouldn’t be possible.”
His advice to rugby youngsters is that teamwork makes the dream work. Young Zeek is grateful for everything his mother does for him.
“I hope God will bless her so that she can continue helping me with my fees until I finish school.”
