Resident spoils city’s ‘animal heroes’

Burrows approached Emperors Palace with her request

A Kempton woman who wanted to acknowledge local vet Dr Stewart Christie for his contribution to the community and their pets, spoilt him and his wife with an overnight stay at the five-star D’Oreale Grand Hotel at Emperors Palace.

“Dr Christie assists with the SPCA animals and he and Colleen are well known for being the ‘cat folks’ of Kempton. They have many cats and kittens that have been abandoned and rescued, which they get into good health for adoption from their practice,” said Toni Burrows.

“They are so caring and compassionate towards the pets and their owners. They are amazing.

“I took in Kitty Kat who was either abandoned or ran away and their caring for her will always be treasured. Colleen has Comfy Cats accommodation on their premises, where all the cats surrounded her at her workstation,” Burrows added.

“Kitty Kat spent a few days there over Christmas while I was away, and on Christmas day around lunch time they sent me a photo of Kitty Kat having Christmas lunch. Is that not just so special and precious?”

Burrows approached Emperors Palace with this request: “I’d like to ask you if you would consider a gift of a hotel stay for our local vet, Dr Stewart Christie and his wife Colleen. They are heroes in Kempton Park. There is an honouring of vets on April 28 and as I get involved in SPCA contributions and collections, it would be great if we could spoil Dr Christie and his wife with a wonderful treat of a stay at Emperors Palace.”

Emperors Palace did not hesitate and granted Burrows her request.

Christie started working in Kempton Park in 1994.
