A woman was killed and a man sustained critical injuries when their vehicle overturned several times on Atlas Road in Farrarmere in Benoni during the early hours of Wednesday morning.

At about 3am, paramedics arrived on the scene where they found the man, believed to be in his twenties, still trapped in the vehicle. He was extricated by the local fire department, Werner Vermaak, spokesman for ER24, said.

Once freed, paramedics continued their treatment and rushed him to Tambo Memorial Hospital for further care.

A woman, also believed to be in her twenties, was found a few metres away from the vehicle. Sadly, she sustained fatal injuries and there was nothing paramedics could do for her. She was declared dead.

In another accident, a 31-year-old motorcyclist sustained fatal injuries when he crashed into the back of a stationary vehicle on the N12 east near the Atlas Road off-ramp on Tuesday evening.

Vermaak said shortly before 6pm, paramedics were attending to a minor collision on the N12. Due to the collision, several vehicles were stationary on the highway.

“It is understood that the motorbike rider crashed into the back of one of the vehicles that were stationary due to the initial collision.”

Paramedics from ER24 that arrived on the scene found the rider near his motorbike. Sadly, he sustained fatal injuries and there was nothing they could do for him. The occupants of the vehicle was not injured in the collision.
