Metro photographs mess but does nothing

All we ask is that the rubbish be removed and official signage posted

DANIE SWANEVELDER writes:

On May 18, we reported the illegal dumping of 15 bulk bags of rubbish on the pavement of our property, in Chloorkop, to the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality.

Due to their system being off-line, the customer care woman was unable to supply a reference number, but promised that the matter would be attended to.

We were so impressed when we noticed a municipal employee taking photos of the dumped rubbish later the same day.

Sadly, nothing has happened since, except that the rubbish bags have been opened by vagrants and the rubbish is all over the place.

We followed up with the municipality on June 8, and have still received no response or action. We even contacted the DA councillor for assistance, with no luck.

More and more people are using this area (corner of Ohm (Bergrivier Drive) and Mission Terrice Intokoza) to dump their rubbish.

The road in front of the property is extremely damaged, with potholes so big motorists are driving on the pavement to avoid them.

Luckily the municipal system was working when we reported the problem again, and we were given a reference number.

All we ask is that the rubbish be removed, official signage be posted, warning against illegal dumping, and that the road be repaired.
