Couple stuck on car’s roof for 3 hours due to flooding on R25
Metro police were on site directing traffic
LOCAL resident Warryn Mudde and his partner got stuck on the roof of his Kia Sportage for three hours owing to the flood water on the R25 towards Pretoria.
“I was on my way to drop off my partner in Pretoria at about 1.30am this morning when we got stuck. At first we didn’t see how much water there was because it was dark, but when we got closer we realised it was too deep but we couldn’t turn around.
“When the car started to float we knew there was no going back. The water flooded the car very quickly and we climbed out through the sunroof,” said Mudde.
Mudde and his partner were stuck on the roof and bonnet before a tow truck could get to them. His car will have to be written off as a result of the water damage.
The R25 between the Lafarge Cement Factory and Serengeti on the corner of New Road and the P38 towards Bapsfontein was still closed in both directions due to heavy flood water blocking the road when Express visited the site at 10am. The car in a picture published this morning, was still stuck in deep water this afternoon.
Metro police were on site directing traffic.
The metro police informed EXPRESS that the department of water was on its way to clear some of the water in order to open the road again.
Other floods in Pomona on Outeniqua Street and Vlei Street in Glen Marais were also reported but have cleared up.
