Mental wellbeing during stressful times

As we are flying through 2022 and wondering how it can go this fast, so much has happened in our lives this year and at least we can now look life in the face while tackling it, not hiding half behind a mask.

There has been joy, happiness, success, failure, loss, tragedy and many more things that we have had to endure during this year so far.  We tend to get back into the rhythm of life without always standing still for long enough to acknowledge what we have come through so far.  To maintain good mental health and wellbeing should be a priority in every one’s life but it is becoming more and more difficult as life is really cruising in the fast lane.

As we are (speedily) on our way to Spring, with the promise of new life, of rain, of blossoms on the trees and warmer days, we should not forget that we are entering an extremely stressful time for many scholars and students around the world, namely exam time.  For matrics, the most important exams are lying ahead of you.  Some might be excited, some nervous and some outright terrified.  This is an important time to teach our loved ones that are writing exams the life skill of selfcare.  Look after your own health when times get stressful.  Eat enough fresh vegetables and fruit, drink plenty of water, sleep enough, meditate, listen to music, dance, go for walks in nature, do some exercise to get your heart rate up, talk to friends and loved ones, and overall, just try to focus on keeping your sanity.  Do what you need to do to get rid of the stresses of daily life, reach out if you are not coping.

Loved ones and families should be mindful and support those going through stressful times.  Look for signs that someone is not coping, reach out, support, let them know you are there for them.  Do what you can to help lighten their load.  We have all been through stressful times, and we know what it feels like if you feel that you are fighting the fight alone.  Let’s be there for one another and help each other through these times with love and support.
