To prevent your dog from being cooped up indoors all day, chewing on your favourite pair of shoes because they are bored and lonely or messing in the house because you were stuck in that late afternoon meeting for much longer than planned – it is a good idea to look at a doggy daycare option.

Safe and clean outdoor space
Make sure the outside area is fenced properly and clean to allow your pet to enjoy the fresh air without being able to escape or injure himself. Ideally you want a fairly large patch of grass where they can do their business and play instead of just a concrete or paved slab. There should be enough shade for the dogs to lie under on a hot day or sufficient space inside for them to relax.
Hygienic and healthy environment
Check that the daycare looks and smells clean. You want to make sure there are sufficient water bowls around and that they are filled with fresh water. Staff should regularly poop scoop to keep the space hygienic. Ideally the daycare should ask to see your dog’s vet card to make sure the vaccinations, deworming and flea treatments are up to date. Last thing you want is your pup bringing fleas, ticks and other unmentionables back home.
Staff are trained and licenced
Ask if the staff are trained to work with animals which includes basic obedience skills, understanding body language and knowing protocols when it comes to first aid or acting in an emergency. The daycare centre should also have the necessary certificates or licenses to operate legally. If these are not on display, ask to see them.
